The "Race Retro" is a somewhat different event to the usual winter classic car fairs. Firstly, it focuses on historic motorsport and secondly, it does not just consist of a static exhibition, but also offers a "Life Rally Stage", i.e. a track on which the rally cars of the past can be experienced while driving.
Crowd puller
23,100 spectators attended the 2018 edition, which took place from February 23 to 25 at Stoneleigh Park in Coventry. Among the exhibits were the winged cars, which are celebrating their 40th birthday in 2018. Of course, the Lotus 79, which literally blew away the competition back then, was the center of interest - just remember Ronnie Peterson's hussar ride when he overtook practically the entire field after a pit stop.
Variety
In addition to the sports and racing cars on display, there was also a stage where motorsport legends talked from the sewing box. And, of course, there was also the chance to shop, with 250 exhibitors offering their services and products.
Dynamically presented rally cars
Over 80 rally cars were put to the test on the "Life Rally Stage". The brute Group B cars of the 1980s were particularly honored. Miki Biasion, Jimmi McRae and Alister McRae took the opportunity to get behind the wheel themselves on Saturday and Sunday.
However, Biasion had to fall back on a Fulvia after the Lancia Delta showed signs of mechanical decay.
Meanwhile, Jimmy McRae and his son Alister (father and brother of the late Colin McRae) drove a Subaru Legacy and a BMW M3 (E30 Prodrive.
Ron Dennis drove a Subaru Impreza, Ben Mellors a relatively new Proton Iriz R5, Warren Philliskirk an MG Metro 6R4 and Tony Worswick a Ferrari 308 GTB.
The sight of the Ford Escort RS 1700T, which once replaced the RS200 as a Group B vehicle, was certainly something special. And, of course, the famous Peugeot 205 T16, Audi Quattro and Renault 5 Turbo were not missing. The public certainly got their money's worth, as the pictures show.
