He died at the age of 71, he won his only GP in 1971 and that by just 71 cm! But let's start from the beginning: his name was Peter Gethin, he was born on February 21, 1940 in Ewell near Epsom. He died in Goodwood on December 5, 2011 after a long and serious illness. As the son of a jockey, he had little interest in horses from the outset, but all the more in horsepower. After completing a motor vehicle apprenticeship and racing school at Brands-Hatch, he won the British F5000 Championship in 1969 and 1970. When team owner and driver Bruce McLaren was killed in an accident during testing at Goodwood, Peter Gethin was quickly brought into the McLaren team, where he made his F1 debut at Zandvoort in 1970.
