Just over 30 vehicles were built and today they are worth millions, which is no wonder given their breathtaking shape. It is no wonder that specialist manufacturers of plastic vehicles such as Erik Ockelbo, Bill Devin and the three founders of JWF in Australia took the Ferrari 750 Monza and its brother, the Ferrari 500 Mondial, as a model when producing their GRP bodywork. The Ferrari sports car was actually created almost as a waste product. In the early fifties, Enzo Ferrari realized that his complex and not exactly lightweight engines were not suitable for the new racing classes. He had engineer Lampredi build a four-cylinder engine, which then broke new ground. Steel cylinder liners were bolted from below into the one-piece aluminum engine block cylinder head. This eliminated the cylinder head gasket, which was often identified as a weak point at the time. Valve control was via two overhead camshafts controlled by gears. The Formula 2 engine with a displacement of just under two liters developed around 170 hp at 7,500 rpm.
