Gooding & Company only hold three classic car auctions per year, the most important of which is organized on the occasion of the Concours d'Elégance in Pebble Beach. On August 20 and 21, 2016, the organizers from Gooding once again put together a rich portfolio consisting of 138 cars and two motorcycles, which was impressive in terms of both exclusivity and provenance. An average of around 1.3 million USD (1.15 million euros or 1.25 million CHF) was expected per vehicle, while Gooding estimated the total value of the 140 lots at 180 million American dollars. However, the bidders present did not want to lay out quite that much. Around USD 130 million was raised for the 114 lots sold. This means that USD 1.14 million was achieved per vehicle, which is still a high amount, especially as the lots included a VW Beetle.
