Summary
Wolfgang Seidel was a well-known German racing driver who enjoyed motorsport and competed around the world in a wide variety of cars. It was therefore no coincidence that he was taken with the Ferrari 250 GT "Tour de France". However, the fact that he won his category in the 1958 Gaisberg race with it had as much to do with the Ferrari's legendary qualities as it did with his skills as a driver. And the Palmares also included many other victories and placings. This vehicle report tells the story of the Ferrari 250 GT, which was given the event name as an epithet because of its four overall victories in the Tour de France.

Preview (beginning of the article)
In the past (and even today), winning on the mountain was not just a question of driving ability, but also of choosing the right car. Düsseldorf car salesman Wolfgang Seidel was a talented private racing driver who sat in his tried-and-tested Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta at the Gaisberg race on August 15, 1958 and promptly left the competition behind in the race for the "Aral Prize", which was awarded to improved touring cars with a displacement of over 1600 cc. With two combined times of 10:52.6 minutes, he clearly outpaced the drivers Luigi Vilotti (also in a Ferrari 3000 GT), Carl Peter Blamschein (Lancia Aurelia GT B20) and Erich Pagany (Austin-Healey 100), while the two Mercedes-Benz 300 SLs, a BMW 507 and another Ferrari 250 GT did not appear in the classification at all.
