Artcurial "The W Collection" auction in Monaco 2024 - Ferrari bargains in the millions
Summary
In the run-up to the Grand Prix Historique in Monaco, Artcurial auctioned off the sports car collection of the Swede Staffan Wittmark, which mainly consisted of super classics from Porsche, Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz, including models such as the 250 GT SWB, California Spyder, 300 SL and Carrera RS. On May 9, 2024, Artcurial auctioned off the 44-car collection of the Swede Staffan Wittmark in Monaco. The total value of the collection had previously been estimated at EUR 38.5 million. Despite rarities such as a Ferrari 250 GT SWB or a Ferrari 250 GT Spyder California, the entire collection went under the hammer without a reserve price, which led to some surprising results in the not quite full auction room. The 44 cars were divided between 26 Porsches, 10 Ferraris (and one Dino) and the rest with cars from Mercedes-Benz, Chevrolet, Jaguar and Volvo. On average, the cars were 52 years old, the Ferraris were slightly younger at around 48 years old, and the Porsches were also 51 years old.
