Summary
The Dino 206 S is certainly one of the most beautiful racing Ferraris, even though it did not bear the trademark with the prancing horse. The planned production run of 50 vehicles came to nothing; only 18 were built and were able to make a name for themselves in motorsport despite unfavorable conditions. Almost all of the vehicles have survived and are now traded for millions, such as chassis 006 offered by RM Auctions at the auction on the occasion of the 2012 Monaco GP Historique. This report goes back to the history of the Dino 206 S and, in addition to the 206 S, shows the 166 S prototype and Pininfarina variations on the same chassis.

Nevertheless, this racing car is one of the most beautiful products of the sports car manufacturer from Maranello. Enzo Ferrari had a good plan: he wanted to build a competitive sports car that could compete in Group 4, i.e. not as a prototype, and was superior to the Porsche 904 GTS (and later the Porsche 906 Carrera 6), especially in hill climbs. He also wanted to build enough V6 engines together with Fiat to homologate the power unit for Formula 2. It all started with the Dino 166 P, so called because the displacement of its V6 engine was 1.6 liters.
