It was hot on August 11, 2024, and the sky was practically cloudless. Would this prevent potential Older Classics visitors from driving to Kemptthal? Not at all, as you soon realized when you drove up. Columns formed again and again at the entrance, sometimes in several lanes. But at some point, everyone was in, unless they had already turned back.

The cars were well spread out on the large grounds, but the upper alternative parking lot had to be used before 10:00.
Super classics, exotics and bread-and-butter cars
Typical of the Older Classics, which takes place four times a year at Motorworld Kemptthal between Zurich and Winterthur, the wide range of cars included super classics such as a Lamborghini Urraco, a Ferrari 250 GTE or a Maserati Ghibli, as well as exotic cars such as an early Iso Grifo A3/C or an Alvis TA14 Shooting Brake.

Of course, the former everyday cars were not missing either, whether they were called VW Beetle, Fiat 500, Opel Rekord or MG YA.
Constant coming and going
The grounds opened at around 09:00, and from then on the classic cars began to stream in. And while some left the informal gathering before midday, they were replaced by other vehicles.

This resulted in constant movement and made the event exciting and varied.
Many rarities
Of course, there was no shortage of exciting and special cars, but we would still like to highlight one vehicle. The Rover Speed 14 was only built 380 times between 1934 and 1936 as a Streamline Coupé. The aerodynamic design was "en vogue" at the time and was also featured on the Chrysler Airflow, for example.

The Rover Speed 14 had a body made of sheet aluminum and was designed in-house. The 1577 cm3 six-cylinder engine developed around 54 hp and was capable of almost 133 km/h at Brooklands.
Today, no more than ten of these elegant four-door cars are said to still exist.
Not just cars
The Older Classics is not just a car rally. Christoph Lehmann and his team have made sure that visitors can also find out about many aspects of the classic car ecosystem.

On August 11, 2024, for example, Glasurit employees were happy to provide information on painting and restoration issues, AXA provided information on insurance and Globo gave advice on how to best care for your classic car. There was also plenty to buy and, of course, there was no shortage of suitable refreshments.
The only problem was the heat, which is why some people left the meeting a little earlier than intended.
