This time, Renault slightly exceeded the usual waiting period of around six months from the start of series production to the start of sales abroad for the top-of-the-range TX model in the R16 body. After its presentation at the Paris Motor Show at the beginning of October 1973, the first R16 TX demonstration cars only arrived at German dealers in July 1974. In addition to the normal deviations - such as white instead of dim yellow lights for Germany - there was a tug-of-war between Deutsche Renault and the Federal Motor Transport Authority in Flensburg over the small rear spoiler at the top of the hatch, which was standard in France and was intended to prevent heavy soiling of the rear window. It did not receive the official ABE blessing, although practically the same detail was approved for the Simca 1100 ti.
