Summary
The MT4 Spider, built in 1947 - 55 in 40 units, is probably the most famous OSCA. The first OSCA MT4 (the abbreviation stands for Maserati Tipo 4) appeared in motor racing in 1948. Luigi Villoresi drove the car to victory at the Pescara Circuit and the Naples Grand Prix. The chassis 1138 shown here has the Morelli Spider bodywork and is therefore a Barchetta. Like many of these cars, chassis 1138 also has a turbulent history, but was rescued and restored to its original condition in Switzerland. Many pictures make this article a trouvaille.

The MT4 Spider, built in 1947 - 55 in 40 units, is probably the most famous OSCA. The Osca company was founded by the 3 Maserati brothers (Bindo, Ettore and Ernesto) in 1947 and was based in San Lazzaro di Saveno. As they were no longer allowed to use the name Maserati, the abbreviation OSCA "Officine Specializzate per la Costruzione di Automobili Fratelli Maserati Spa" was used.Alfieri, the fourth of the Maserati brothers, was killed in an accident at the Targa Florio in 1932. The three OSCA founders had to sell the company and the Maserati name to the Orsi family due to financial difficulties.
