Summary
Compared to the 125 Maserati Ghibli Spyders of the late sixties, the Maserati (4200) Spyders were produced in large numbers at the beginning of the new millennium. In reality, however, only just over 4000 were built over a period of six years. They were celebrated as the first real Maseratis for a long time and had an almost magical naturally aspirated V8 engine under the hood. This driving report tells the story of the Maserati Spyder and shows it in many pictures and in the sales literature.

The difference in price today between a Maserati Ghibli Spyder from the late 1960s and a Maserati Spyder from the 2000s is enormous, but there are still more parallels between the two models than one would generally think. For example, both convertibles have a four-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine under the hood, both are strictly two-seaters and in both cases it was Giorgetto Giugiaro who was the designer at the drawing board. But let's take a closer look! At the start of the new millennium, Maserati could already look back on a very long and always turbulent history as a car manufacturer. Founded in 1914, Maserati switched from building racing cars to road-going sports cars at the end of the 1950s.
