Gloss without chrome - short test Opel GT/J (ZQ)
Summary
In 1971, Automobil Revue tested the Opel GT/J and was extremely positive. Their summary was: In its low-priced GT/J version, the first Opel of the "new generation" thrilled younger drivers in particular. It is a real sports car with an exclusive line, outstanding performance and safe driving characteristics, but without tearing too big a hole in the wallet with high purchase and maintenance costs. The test has shown that today even a large manufacturer can build cars that satisfy the connoisseur. The report takes another look back and shows the original restored photos

Nomen est Omen: the "J" in the model designation GT/J of the tested two-seater Opel coupe stands for "Junior", and this version of the powerful GT 1900, which is CHF 2,550 cheaper, is intended for junior drivers. Although the basic version, which has been on the market for three years and is still in the sales program, has been relatively well received, it has not gone unnoticed by the manufacturers that the sales price of CHF 15,450 (1968: 14,800) exceeds the budget of some potential buyers. The considerably cheaper but also weaker GT 1100, which was built in parallel with the 1900, was not able to establish itself due to its more modest performance and has since been taken out of production.
