Opel GT 2 - Door wedge
Summary
As if its futuristic shape wasn't sensational enough, the Opel GT 2 was particularly astonishing at the end of 1975 because of its doors - they did not fold to the side, forwards or upwards. Although many longed for the successor to the Opel GT, the yellow wedge remained a one-off test vehicle.

Even before the presentation at the 1975 IAA, Opel dashed the hopes of all those who were eagerly awaiting a successor to the GT, which had been discontinued two years earlier. After four typewritten pages explaining the high suitability for everyday use, the safe driving behavior and even the ease of maintenance, the press release ended with the sobering sentence: "Opel has no intention of putting the 'GT 2' into production." At least the technical requirements would have been met, as the yellow coupé wedge shared its underpinnings with the new generation of Manta and Ascona, which Opel also presented in Frankfurt. Naturally, the engine came from the top-of-the-range model: the 105 hp Manta GT/E. The only design modification was that it was moved 40 centimeters to the rear, which meant that the front end could be kept significantly lower.
