When Lot No. 296 is called at RM Auctions in London on October 26, 2011, much more than a design study will be up for sale. The Ferrari Pinin from 1980 is a proposal for a Ferrari four-door that had an enormous influence on car designers in the 1980s and can still be seen today as an extremely successful and almost timelessly beautiful creation. When RM Lot No. 296 is called at auction in London on October 26, 2011, much more than a design study will be up for sale. The Ferrari Pinin from 1980 is a proposal for a Ferrari four-door that had an enormous influence on car designers in the 1980s and can still be seen today as an extremely successful and almost timelessly beautiful creation. It is no exaggeration to say that Pininfarina created a new icon with the Pinin. The simple, straight lines that had already been established in the late 70s by saloons such as the Lancia Gamma, Ford Granada II or Aston Martin Lagonda were masterfully implemented. The emphasis on length and width and the complete absence of ornamentation and curves became the global credo of the new decade.
