A small dream car - Autobianchi A 112 in the (historic) test
Summary
Driving performance, space and equipment like a big car; dimensions, running costs and driving pleasure like a small car - the Autobianchi A 112 was living proof that you didn't really need more than it. A few small imperfections were readily forgiven in the bustling little car. In this historical test report, even the otherwise so objective Paul Simsa becomes almost emotional.

Compact station wagon in mini format, designed by Fiat. A functional form, but with a twist. Technically speaking: A much shorter and somewhat narrower Fiat 128 with the engine of the Fiat 850 Sport (900 cc), power reduced from 52 to 44 hp. The English Mini is even shorter and somewhat narrower, but not narrower and has a separate luggage compartment in the rear. On the other hand, the A 112 has full-size 13 mm wheels (the Austin/Morris has small 10 mm wheels). Rear door, rear seat can be folded forward to extend the loading area: loading length 1.3 m, usable loading width 1 m, loading height in the door 73 cm, in the roof area 83 cm. The A 112 has as much occupant space as the VW 1302 (which is 85 cm longer on the outside), which only offers a space advantage due to its higher seats and has more luggage space (A 112 behind the rear seat approx. 180 dm³, VW 1302 behind the rear seat 140 dm³ and under the front hood approx. 220 dm³).
