With a new name and a new engine, DKW wanted to leave the unfashionable reputation of the two-stroke era behind in 1965. The first "Audi" in 25 years was powered by a particularly high-compression four-cylinder engine from Daimler-Benz, which turned the small saloon into a progressive and nimble car. However, it also had a major weakness - the biggest of the entire car. It has been talked about over and over again, the rumors would not die down: Mercedes will bring out a smaller model. Those who wanted to know for sure now see it in the Audi. And that's because it has been given an engine from the design team in Stuttgart. Despite the engine, it is not a Mercedes, even though it may have some equally good features. Instead, the Audi has remained a genuine Auto Union product. After all, it was the F 102 that was given a different engine. The fact that it is no longer a two-stroke engine does not change much. The shape and chassis remained the same. What has changed is the face, the grille. This retouching has done it good. The appearance with the angular headlights is much more generous. It is therefore also better suited to the characteristics of the car.
