Summary

The racy letters ti were invented by Alfa Romeo in 1957 (and later copied by others) to designate a sportily trimmed saloon. They stand for turismo internazionale, to emphasize the good purpose: comfort is part of it, it should not be a sports car. The latest addition to the ti family is the Alfasud ti, the two-door model with more power and a full range of equipment, while maintaining a commendable level of practicality. Externally, the ti can be recognized by its double halogen headlights, spoiler under the front nose and at the rear, sporty wheels and front and rear bumper horns. The ti has a rev counter (the same size as the speedometer) instead of the instrument cluster on the dashboard, which looks less drab than the normal model thanks to the light gray inserts. The oil pressure gauge and fuel gauge have been moved individually to the right in place of the ashtray; a third small scale can be used for a timer; it contains a shamrock symbol, which is reportedly blessed by the Pope. The ashtray has been moved into a center console, which contains a storage compartment at the bottom and a radio panel at the top. The windshield washer, a minus point in the normal Alfasud, is electric in the ti, operated by the right-hand finger lever, which is also used to switch the two-stage windshield wiper. The second switching stage should be faster for high speeds, the washer reservoir is too small. The steering wheel is also covered with artificial leather in the normal Alfa, in the ti with perforated spokes, which creates the visual effect of a sports steering wheel in the simplest possible way. The floor is covered with carpet, fabric center panels enhance the well-shaped seats, headrests are standard on the ti, as are the laminated glass windshield and cigarette lighter, and a heated rear window is mandatory in practice.
