On August 12 and 13, the Erwin Hymer Museum will be transformed into a lively historic campsite for the "Summertime!" classic car event. Numerous extraordinary, well-preserved and restored vintage caravans, motorhomes and camper vans will populate the large outdoor area. After three smaller events due to the pandemic, this year's motto is "Bulli, Vans & Co" and it's time to celebrate (and camp) again!
Included: a rare Ford Taunus Transit Westfalia from 1963, which has been restored with great attention to detail by its owner, a quirky British Bedford Dormobile and a VW T1 that is popular with collectors. A French Peugeot J7 with camping equipment, which belonged to Pumuckl author Ellis Kaut, VW T2 camper vans and many more will be part of the lively exhibition. As the epitome of freedom, happiness and independent travel to faraway places, the vintage camper vans will take you back to the days of "Love, Peace & Freedom".
Visitors, classic car and camping fans, history buffs, travel enthusiasts and the curious can experience the historic vehicles and their owners and their stories up close. Exciting travel reports tell of life "on the road" for the hippies of the 1960s and 1970s and the globetrotters of today. The museum workshop provides practical tips for buying VW T3 and T4 buses and advice on the restoration and maintenance of vintage vehicles. In the exhibition, the special program "How Vanlife started" also shows how "vanlife" began over seventy years ago and became a success story. Numerous camper vans from the 1950s to the wild 1970s - famous representatives and little-known pioneers - have moved into the museum for the summer. Exciting and playful hands-on activities make the exhibition an exciting excursion destination for the whole family.
Live music with authentic 1950s rockabilly sounds guarantees dancing fun for all fans of rock 'n' roll, while classics from the sixties bring the flair of the "summer of love" to life. The camper and paddock party on Saturday evening will rock with hits from past decades. Culinary delights and ice-cold drinks will be provided by the Caravano museum restaurant.
The big classic car event "Summertime!" will take place on August 12 and 13 from 10:00 to 18:00 in the Erwin Hymer Museum and on the large outdoor area. The camper and paddock party starts on Saturday evening at 18:00.
