BMW Group Classic has won two of the coveted trophies at the Corporate Media & TV Awards in Cannes with its cinematic homage to the BMW M1, which was presented for the first time 40 years ago. The BMW Group Classic video Christmas greeting entitled "Santa's Choice" was awarded a Golden Dolphin in the film festival city in the south of France, while the animated film "40 Years BMW M1" received the Silver Dolphin in the "Social Media and Short Videos" category. The two award-winning films were created in a collaboration between BMW Group Classic and its long-standing partner, the media agency Shot One.
Gold for Santa Claus
The Christmas greeting distributed by BMW Group Classic at the end of 2017 was awarded a gold / silver dolphin in the "Virals" category. The one-minute clip entitled "Santa's Choice", which is as humorous as it is atmospheric, focuses on Santa Claus as a connoisseur and lover of classic automobiles.
In the BMW Group Classic Collection Hall in Munich, "Santa Claus" searches for the "Coolest Ride for Christmas" and finds a suitable alternative to the traditional reindeer sleigh. He discovers numerous legends from the racing history of the BMW and MINI brands before finally choosing the BMW M1. The red racer bears the name "Rudolph" on the license plate and greets its new driver with a wink from its characteristic folding headlights.
Silver for the M1 animated film
A Silver Dolphin in the "Social Media and Short Videos" category went to the animated film "40 Years BMW M1". The 60-second spot commemorates the debut of the mid-engine sports car in 1978. In its award-winning anniversary clip, the BMW M1 moves through a virtual world of consumer goods, music and fashion styles of its era amidst color schemes and graphic patterns characteristic of the late 1970s. The role of the BMW M1 as the fastest German production sports car of its time is honored, as are its race track appearances in the Procar series, in which famous Formula 1 drivers competed against each other. The BMW M1, designed by US artist Andy Warhol as a BMW Art Car, also makes an appearance in the entertaining clip.
