For the first time in the history of the Liqui Moly calendar, a car was cast for the photos on the Internet. 330 vehicle enthusiasts applied with their four-wheeled dream for this one place in the oil and additive specialist's most popular advertising medium. Rudolf Polzer's DeLorean DMC-12 was chosen; a car with cult status and a famous previous owner.
Show star as previous owner
The cast car that took part in the shoot for the 2019 Liqui Moly calendar belonged to Hollywood star Sammy Davis Junior. He once joined DeLorean as an investor and drove this very vehicle. After his death in 1990, it went to its first European owner in Holland. Rudolf Polzer from Riedlingen flew there six years ago with the intention of acquiring a DeLorean with a manual gearbox. As the "switch" had not yet been completed at the time, the seller offered him the famous entertainer's car and the deal was perfect.
Like Sammy Davis Junior, the DeLorean also made a career in Hollywood: in 1985, 1989 and 1990, a converted DMC-12 served as a time machine in the science fiction film trilogy 'Back to the Future' and has been associated with the dream of time travel ever since.
Selected on the Internet
Rudolf Polzer did not travel to another time, but to another world thanks to his DeLorean. He entered it in the big Liqui Moly car casting for the 2019 calendar and beat 330 other competitors to be selected by the jury. They both found themselves in a container terminal in Munich-Riem with other cars bursting with horsepower and pretty models for the shoot.
Rudolf Polzer's conclusion after a day with a flurry of flashbulbs: "Thank you very much for this experience. It was all very exciting and I was very pleased that some very special pictures of me and my car were taken just for me as a memento of the day. Thanks to the whole team, the models and the photographer, it was just great - and for me it's as if Sammy Davis Jr. was there too."
Americans in the parking garage
Other backdrops included a parking garage in Fröttmaning, the Katzenberger concrete plant and the Geiger Cars dealership, which is famous for its US vehicles.
Even though for the first time there will only be a calendar with clothed models, one thing is certain: the 2019 Liqui Moly calendar will be worth the wait. Customers and fans will have to be patient until the fall - unless they find or invent a time-travel machine.
