Youngtimers are the classic cars of tomorrow and many car enthusiasts deliberately keep older vehicles. They enjoy a special design, a certain driving experience or technical refinements that mean more to them than what newer vehicles have to offer. And they all ask themselves: which cars between 20 and 30 years old have what it takes to become the popular classics of tomorrow or even experience a glorious classic car future?

Of the approximately 4.8 million registered four-wheeled passenger vehicles on the Swiss market, around 5 percent or 240,000 are likely to be youngtimers built between 1993 and 2002. Only a few of these cars are the old used cars of grandmothers who are not very keen to consume; most of them are deliberately kept alive, maintained and serviced with great dedication.
Young classics more popular than ever
Younger people in particular, as car enthusiasts, have a strong interest in "cooler" vehicles from the past: youngtimers, older than 20 but younger than 30, are often (just barely) affordable. Also relevant: They sometimes offer considerable potential for value appreciation. They are suitable for everyday use and even for summer trips across Italy.
Sometimes people are simply looking for the car that 30- or 40-year-olds saw on their way to school - and have been dreaming about ever since.
Ecologically harmless
Even from an ecological and climate balance point of view, the occasional driving of a Youngtimer is harmless. Not only are no new resources or often environmentally harmful production processes required, but fuel consumption and even pollutant emissions are often no higher than in modern vehicles - precisely because they have often become much heavier and more powerful. What's more, these cars have already been built, and it is well known that a significant proportion of emissions are produced during the manufacturing process.
Which are the most popular youngtimers in Switzerland
This question is now being posed by the makers of Zwischengas.com, the leading classic car platform on the German-speaking Internet and Swiss Classic World, the major classic car fair in Switzerland, which will be held in Lucerne at the beginning of June.
A pre-selection of striking vehicles from the 1990s to 2002 was made based on popularity; clicks on vehicle reports and advertisements on zwischengas.com were evaluated.
Zwischengas.com and Swiss Classic World are looking for the Youngtimer of the Year. There are 70 interesting vehicles to choose from in six categories, ranging from small cars, convertibles, coupés, saloons and SUVs/off-road vehicles to super sports cars.
