On December 16, 2015, HorsePower, an extraordinary exhibition, was officially opened at the Lowman Museum. On display are nine unorthodox sculptures by Dutch artist WIlem Lenssinck. The artworks symbolize the transition from natural power to the mechanical age of the automobile in the 20th century.
Personal and unique style
The automobile brought about one of the greatest cultural changes mankind has ever seen and this is exactly what Willem Lenssinck wanted to portray. In nine contemporary sculptures, he depicts the transition from the horse to the automobile. Using the latest digital techniques, he interpreted this important historical development from a new, imaginative angle. The result is at once extravagant, humorous, overcoming all boundaries and reflecting his very personal and unique style.
The masterpieces are exhibited in the large hall of the Louwman Museum, where there is enough space for the works of art, which are between 1.5 and 7 meters long. Lenssinck has chosen exclusive and above all durable materials such as bronze, aluminum and bluestone to create sculptures that border on technical perfection. He does not leave even the smallest detail to others, right up to the final grinding, polishing and patenting. That is why all his works are of the highest quality.
Willem Lenssinck
Willem Lenssinck was born in 1947, studied for five years at the Royal College of Art in Utrecht and then worked as an independent sculptor from 1972. His works have been exhibited at the world's most important art fair, TEFAF, for over 25 years.
Lenssinck has been depicting horses in artistic works since 1982. Nevertheless, HorsePower is the first opportunity to admire complete works on this subject.
