According to media reports, a Swiss investor group under the name L3 Holding has bought the rights to the De Tomaso brand for just over two million euros. In contrast to other bidders from Italy and China, the investors are said to have come up with a business plan that envisages the production of around 4,500 cars a year by the end of the decade with 360 employees.
This is not the only attempt so far to revive the once well-known De Tomaso brand, but previous attempts have not been successful.
De Tomaso was founded in 1959 by Alejandro De Tomaso. The Mangusta (1966) and Pantera (1970) models, both powered by Ford V8 engines, became particularly well known. De Tomaso also built formula cars, racing cars and the compact mid-engined sports car Vallelunga (1964).
It will be interesting to see whether the brand, like Borgwrad, will manage to return to the glorious old days.
