The RM/Sotheby's auction in Milan will take place on June 15, 2021 at Palazzo Serbelloni on the occasion of the start of the Mille Miglia. On offer will be a clear selection of 19 special cars, most of which are from Italian car brands.
The vehicles are worth a total of EUR 14 million, with each car - on average 46 years old - expected to fetch EUR 740,000.
Ferrari super classics
Not entirely unexpectedly, the most valuable cars at the auction have a little horse on the hood. The highest estimate was for a Ferrari 275 GTB from 1966, with chassis 08641 expected to fetch EUR 2 to 2.5 million.
The coupé was once bought by Roger Vadim Plemiannikov and also driven by his wife Jane Fonda.
A Ferrari 250 GT/Lusso from 1963 with chassis number 4563 promises to be somewhat cheaper. Originally delivered to Italy, the car has been in Switzerland since 2006 and is now expected to cost EUR 1.4 to 1.8 million.
Wonderfully yellow is a Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona from 1973, which is on the lot list for EUR 550,000 to 650,000, while a Dino 246 GTS from 1973 was estimated at EUR 380,000 to 420,000.
Racing cars too
One of the most expensive cars in the auction is the Ferrari 550 GT1 from 2000, which has an estimate of EUR 1.8 to 2.2 million.
Among others, Dieter Quester drove the racing coupé painted in Red Bull colors, which was mainly used in the FIA GT Championship.
The livery of the Alfa Romeo 155 V6 ITC from 1996 is legendary. The Alfa Corse works car was driven by Nicola Larini in the 1996 ITC season and won in Mugello and Interlagos. Extensively overhauled and serviced for EUR 350,000 (according to invoices), the touring car is now expected to cost EUR 700,000 to 800,000.
The 1994 Alfa Romeo 155 TS BTCC, which, as its name suggests, was entered in the British Touring Car Championship and driven by Gabriele Tarquini, looks somewhat more civilized. This resulted in victory in the BTCC in 1994. EUR 300,000 to 400,000 would allow the purchase of this touring car legend.
Five non-Italians
While Italian cars make up the bulk of the offer, there are also five classics from other countries.
The Aston Martin DB4 Series 2 from 1960, which was estimated at EUR 450,000 to 550,000, should be mentioned here in particular.
The Bugatti Type 46 Coupé "Superprofilé" from 1931 is certainly also of interest. Its history is interesting, as the unbodied chassis had survived original and unused until the mid-1990s. It was only during the subsequent restoration, which took ten years, that the car was given a coupé body in the style of the Type 50 built by Gangloff at the 1932 Paris Motor Show.
Now EUR 500,000 to 700,000 is said to be enough to buy this very special car. It will be interesting to see.
Neoclassics from Mercedes and Koenigsegg
Although the average age of the vehicles on offer is over 45 years, there are also two very young cars on offer.
A 2004 Koenigsegg CCR was estimated at EUR 720,000 to 760,000, while a 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Black Series is looking to fetch EUR 400,000 to 500,000.
Open Cisitalia
Only around 60 Cisitalia 202 SCs were built as convertibles. One of these will go under the hammer in Milan as a blue car with chassis number 118 SC. An estimate of EUR 250,000 to 350,000 is given, but an interested party has the chance to win the bid for significantly less money, as the car is being offered without a reserve price, as the only car in the auction.
Further information on the individual vehicles and the auction can be found on the RM/Sotheby's website.
