Exciting news for all those who are fans of classic cars and electric cars at the same time. A new company in Germany called "Voltimer" has set out to bring classic cars up to the latest state of the art, including electric motors.
Voltimer plans to import immaculate classic cars from South America (VW Beetle & VW Bulli) and convert them in Germany. Here, the customer's wishes are to be implemented in as much detail as possible. Everything is possible, from the range to the type of charging station. The company can also convert its own vehicles.
On its website, Voltimer distinguishes between three types of electric vehicles: City Voltimer, Country Voltimer and Hobby Voltimer. The names already give it away, the type of use is in the foreground. The City model is marketed as an entry-level model and has a comparatively short range of 70 km. Logically, this variant is also designed for city traffic. However, the charging time of 3.5 hours is also manageable.
The Country Voltimer is somewhat better equipped. With a 28 kW asynchronous motor, 4 Tesla batteries, a range of 150 km and a charging time of 6.5 hours, it is already better equipped. However, this raises the question of how long it will take to charge at a public charging station. Because 6.5 hours is clearly too long, if you compare it with the 20 minutes at a test station.
The third model allows even longer journeys, as the battery capacity can be upgraded to 400 km. A 44 kW motor and 200 km range would be offered as standard, but at EUR 59,500 the price is significantly higher than for the other variants.
To be fair, it must be added here that various combinations are possible with Voltimer. An increase in range, for example, is therefore always possible, with the necessary small change, mind you.
All in all an interesting idea, time will tell whether the company can be successful with it and how satisfied the customers will be. Similar efforts are also underway in Switzerland, and the next few years should be interesting.
