Although the popular classic car trade fair in Stuttgart had to be postponed from March to April 2022, the 21st Retro Classics will be pulling out all the stops from April 21 to 24. In addition to a special Bugatti show, for example, there will be a special exhibition to mark the 101st birthday of motorcycle manufacturer Moto Guzzi.
The legendary motorcycle brand from Italy with the eagle
The spread eagle's wings in the emblem make the hearts of connoisseurs beat faster. Like few other brands, Moto Guzzi is emblematic of the Italian motorcycle tradition - and is today one of the oldest motorcycle manufacturers still in production in the world. To mark the 101st anniversary of the Lombard two-wheeler manufacturer, the Allgemeine Motorradsport-Club Leonberg e.V. is presenting a large special show at Retro Classics with machines from all phases of the company's eventful history.
This can be divided into two major eras, explains Frank Schleicher, who is organizing the "101 Years of Moto Guzzi" exhibition for the AMSC Leonberg. "The early models were equipped with technically mature, innovative, longitudinally mounted single-cylinder engines. However, what most people associate with the brand today is the transversely mounted V-twin cylinder engine developed towards the end of the 1960s, which has remained practically a unique selling point to this day. These engines have a rather simple design, but are quite durable. If necessary, they could also be repaired in a village smithy to such an extent that you could continue to drive them."
At Retro Classics Stuttgart, the hundred-year history of the brand is covered "almost completely", says Schleicher happily. "Our oldest exhibit is from 1922 - it is one of the very first two hundred and fifty examples of Guzzi production."
The more than 70 exhibits also include several rare examples of the V7 Sport as well as various versions of the classic California, which was once developed for the US market and was able to hold its own there as an affordable "full-dresser" alongside the Harley Davidson Electra Glide.
Many other special exhibitions
In addition, there will be further special exhibitions covering the entire range from the original Mustang to its modern successor, including cars from the Swabian car brand Gutbrod and historic special police vehicles.
