Motorworld Classics Bodensee 2020 is all about animals: this year's exhibition focuses on vehicles whose names are derived from animal names. For example, Ford Mustang, Fiat Panda or the car brand "Spatz"...
Animal car types wanted for exhibition zoo: Panda, Beetle, Duck, Mouse and Mustang
Legendary are the duck and the beetle, rather rare are the coati and the tree frog. Common car types were also called Panda or Mustang - perhaps because horsepower comes from horsepower. Nobody really knows why the Golf was called Rabbit in the USA. The Cobra does not derive its name from the car snake, but from the venomous power delivery of its 8-cylinder engine. The new special show at the 13th Motorworld Classics Bodensee from May 8 to 10, 2020 at the exhibition grounds in Friedrichshafen is something akin to an expedition into the animal kingdom. When the show of car types named after animals is complete, there should be around 80 different exhibits in the "Motorworld Zoo". The trade fair team is sure that classic car fans will have a lot of fun with this theme.
So let's have a cheerful guess at the classic car fair in Friedrichshafen. Eagles, Jaguars, Dodge Vipers, Pumas, Cobras, wasps, mice and many other creatures are also welcome. Incidentally, US manufacturers and Japanese companies are focusing heavily on the horse: Ford Mustang and Ford Bronco, Hyundai's Galloper and Pony as well as Plymouth Fury - the marketing departments have obviously gone off the deep end.
Animal names because of emotional attachment?
"The animal names stood for the emotional connection to the vehicle, today car types are marketed in a matter-of-fact and cool manner," says divisional manager Roland Bosch, describing his team's motives for putting on a special animal show at the classic car fair. The large classic car scene is looking forward to the 13th Motorworld Classics Bodensee with great anticipation.
The sales and event trade fair for classic mobility will take place at the exhibition grounds in Friedrichshafen from May 8 to 10, 2020, slightly earlier than usual. "An exciting mix of mobility from the good old days," announce Exhibition Director Klaus Wellmann and Division Manager Roland Bosch. The classic car fair shows its (equestrian) strengths and once again presents itself as dynamic and versatile.
Vintage Demo Racing
Whether on land, on water or in the air - the twelve halls at Messe Friedrichshafen are filled with cars, motorcycles, boats and airplanes from all eras. Many dynamic events will also be taking place: the exhibition circuit for the Vintage Demo Racings is prepared for historic racing cars, motorcycles and legendary sports cars. "The trade in classic cars, whether through specialist dealers, at the auction combined with the opportunity for a test drive on the Messerund circuit or private sales, plays an important role," says project manager Roland Bosch.
The classic car parking arena, where visitors can park their treasures right in the middle of the exhibition grounds, is also unique.
Special shows on Americans, steam and plastics
American classics can be seen in a special show in Hall B3. US classic cars, bikes, accessories, lifestyle, clothing and other collector's items will be gathered there.
The unique special show "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" will fascinate visitors with historic steam cars from all over Europe. The special show with a "Stanley Steamer" and other steam cars from the European Steam Car Association demonstrates that alternative drive technologies have already mobilized people in the past.
They are the superstars at car shows: exclusive coupés and convertibles such as the 1953 Corvette, the Lotus Elite from 1957, the McLaren F1 from 1993 or the Porsche Carrera GT from 2003. They have one thing in common: their bodywork is made of plastic. Around 80 years ago, when the all-steel body was just becoming established and replacing the previously dominant wooden construction, the automotive industry also discovered the new chemical materials. Today, manufacturers can no longer do without lightweight plastics, carbon and composite materials for the body and chassis. This is because the material has one major advantage: it can be shaped into almost any form, does not rust and saves weight, which in turn leads to reduced fuel consumption. The fiber-reinforced plastic body is also impressive when it comes to vehicle safety, as it often offers greater occupant protection than steel. Motorworld Classics Bodensee is addressing this topic with the special show "Decades of the plastic body".
Auto Bild Bodensee Classic Rally
Parallel to Motorworld Classics Bodensee, the ninth Old- and Youngtimer Auto Bild Bodensee-Klassik Rallye will take place from 7 to 9 May 2020, covering around 500 kilometers through the border triangle of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. 180 exceptional vehicles and many celebrities will be at the start. A special stage on the Motorworld Classics Bodensee exhibition circuit is planned for Saturday.
Become an exhibitor yourself?
If you still have a car with an animal name in your garage (stable?), you are welcome to contact the trade fair team.
For the special show "Decades of plastic bodywork", owners of cars with plastic bodywork are cordially invited to exhibit their vehicles as part of the special show. We are looking for exhibits from the 1950s to the present day. Applications with a photo and a brief description of the car can be sent to the special exhibition team by April 24, 2020.
