The Swiss Marathon Rally is an endurance test for man and machine! 1000 km in twice 12 hours! From May 15 - 17, 2015, the teams will navigate their classic bikes through the most beautiful places, over the highest passes and the most impassable roads in all of Switzerland.
Every year, the SMR organization team creates a varied route with challenging tasks and passage controls that are not always easy to find.
Navigation is based exclusively on road maps - electronics are not permitted! Driving like in grandpa's time - no highway, no navigation system, but endless side roads.
Now "only" twice 12 hours
The SMR was revised for the anniversary in 2015 and some changes and new features await the participants on the Ascension weekend. The teams will start as usual on Friday, but this year a little earlier, at 10:00 am, and then ride non-stop for 12 hours until 10:00 pm.
After a short night, the rally restarts at 06:00 on Saturday morning. Another 12 hours with roadbook and map are on the agenda and the pilot and navigator will be challenged to the utmost on Saturday as well. At 18:00, the first exhausted teams reach the finish at the Hotel Aarau-West in Oberentfelden, which is also where they start and sleep. The organizing committee uses the night for its evaluations and on Sunday morning the winners are chosen in the old freshness. The winning team will receive a set of new Vredestein tires for their car!
No electronic aids
Electronic aids, in particular satellite navigation devices and cell phone apps, are strictly prohibited. Routes are to be found using normal road maps only. Anyone using navigation devices will be disqualified. Because part of the challenge is to navigate using road maps!
Important information
Each team pays an entry fee of CHF 930.00 in advance. This includes both overnight stays with breakfast and various meals on the road and in the hotel, start number stickers, road book and the participant badges. Only the liquids for body, mind and vehicle are to be paid for by the participant.
All vehicles up to and including 1980 are eligible for the rally. Further information, the registration form and pictures from previous years can be found on the Swiss Marathon Rally website. The organizing committee is looking forward to welcoming all hardy participants!
