Motorsport fans in Germany had some difficult news to digest last week. Due to organizational difficulties, Formula 1 will not be making a guest appearance in Germany in 2015.
"Formula 1 substitute" Solitude Revival
However, if you don't want to miss out on the sight and sound of Formula 1 cars this summer, you shouldn't delete the race weekend from your racing calendar just yet. The Solitude Revival e.V. invites you to the former race track on the outskirts of Stuttgart from July 17 to 19. Fifty years to the day after the last formula race at Solitude, the event will commemorate the glorious motorsport history of the state capital.
Historic starting grid - just like back then!
A special highlight is the presentation of a historic starting grid on Sunday, July 19, at the traditional starting time. It will include vehicles such as the Porsche 804, which achieved a start-finish victory at the same venue in 1962, as well as other exceptional formula racing cars. As a tribute to more modern times, Michael Schumacher's original Benetton, in which he won his first world championship title in 1994, will also be driven around the track.
Not just Formula 1 action
In addition to Formula 1 fans, touring car and motorcycle fans will also get their money's worth. There will be several starting fields grouped by vehicle class, including spectacular motorcycle sidecars. SR President Hans-Peter Koch: "We want to put on an exciting event that offers a varied program in a unique setting for die-hard motorsport fans and families alike. Many people in Stuttgart don't even know what a historical gem they have on their doorstep."
Porsche as main sponsor
Unlike in today's Formula 1, there will be no Mercedes dominance at Solitude. The front row of the grid belongs to the main sponsor from Zuffenhausen. Koch: "Special thanks go to Porsche for providing exceptional vehicles, the town of Leonberg for its support and the ADAC for making the traffic training area available. Without the support of these partners and numerous other companies from the region, this event would not be possible."
