Yesterday, March 12, 2020, the special exhibition "All-rounder. 70 years of the German Bulli Republic" opened at the Volkswagen AutoMuseum in Wolfsburg to mark the 70th anniversary of the Volkswagen Bulli T1.
On March 8, 1950, production of the VW Type 2 T1 began in Wolfsburg (Hanover followed later), and it has been an important pillar of the Volkswagen range ever since.
A special feature of the exhibition is that, in addition to some exceptional Volkswagen Transporters - including a prototype from 1949 and the one millionth example from 1962 - the most important competitors from DKW to Ford and Lloyd to Tempo are also on display. The technology and the wealth of variants of the time are also presented in detail
From commercial vehicle to cult vehicle
Today, the Bulli is a cult vehicle, and not just for the Sambabus (with the roof windows), which stands out in particular among the 1.9 million T1s. The 16 exhibits and detailed text and picture series in the museum explain why this is the case.
The exhibition runs from March 12 to August 31, 2020 and the museum is open daily (except Mondays) from 10 am to 5 pm.
