For the first three-day British Classic Car Meeting to mark the 20th anniversary of the classic car event (11-14 July 2013), the organizers have come up with a special kick in the form of the "Horseshoe Challenge". The winner is the one who completes two runs in the same time along the legendary horseshoe curve at the Olympia Bobrun St. Moritz-Celerina - not the one who is the fastest.
With the popular Concours d'Elégance, spectators can look forward to a kind of beauty contest of four-wheeled rarities on the Via Serlas, directly in front of the entrance to Badrutt's Palace Hotel.
Matured into a classic in 20 years
St. Moritz owes the invention of winter vacations and modern winter sports to the British. But that's not all: for 20 years now, the small but excellent "British Classic Car Meeting St. Moritz" has been bringing the finest British automotive art to the Engadin Alpine metropolis. In just under two decades, the meeting has managed to establish itself as an automobile event that attracts international attention. More than 200 classic cars of British origin meet every year in mid-July for the Rallye and Concours d'Elégance.
Anniversary edition with additional prologue
Monte Carlo has the "Loews Curve", St. Moritz the "Horse Shoe". In the first case, this refers to the hairpin bend of the Formula 1 circuit on the Côte d'Azur. The second is the famous horseshoe bend of the St. Moritz-Celerina Olympic Bob Run.
Where daredevil bobsleigh pilots hurtle down at speeds of up to 140 kilometers per hour in winter, on Friday, July 12, the participants of the 20th BCCM St. Moritz, which is fully booked with 215 vehicles, will battle it out for the Hill Climb victory. This part of the prologue called the "Horseshoe Challenge" is all about consistency. The winner is not the fastest, but the one who completes two runs in as close to the same time as possible. The start is in Celerina just below the Bobhaus,
The finish is at the Hotel Bären in St. Moritz Dorf. This means that spectators in the heart of the Engadin Alpine metropolis can enjoy a thrilling competition atmosphere with some of the most beautiful British classics ever. In addition to the Hill Climb, the prologue also includes skill tests.
Traditional rally on Saturday, Concours d'Elégance on Sunday
As in previous years, the traditional rally will be held on Saturday. The "Anniversary mountain-pass Rally" offers spectators three different stages: Starting in St. Moritz, each stage leads over the Albula, Bernina and Maloja passes and back. The start is from the Olympiaschanze parking lot
St. Moritz, where a large tent will be set up for spectators, which will act as the focal point of the rally. The finish is at around 3 p.m. in the pedestrian zone of St. Moritz village. On Sunday, the popular Concours d' Elégance in the center of St. Moritz village will mark the end of the anniversary meeting. A jury will award prizes to the most beautiful vehicles, which will be on display in Via Serlas from 10.30 am to around 2 pm.
Special offer for hotel guests
If you don't just want to watch the various stages of the classic car rally over the Albula, Bernina and Maloja passes and back in the gallery or from the roadside, guests of the Badrutt's Palace Hotel can enjoy their own driving experience through the Engadine mountains.
