When racing legend Jochen Mass goes into raptures and talks about 'Retro Classics meets Baroque' at Ludwigsburg Palace as a "prime example of how to create and convey a fascinating atmosphere through the extraordinary quality and number of participating cars", we hear the expert. But year after year, the event in the garden of the "Blooming Baroque" at Ludwigsburg Palace also delights around 30,000 visitors, who marvel at the elegant luxury automobiles and lovingly maintained "bread and butter" classic cars through the eyes of the layman and enjoy the presentation of the cars and reminiscing about their own memories.
From May 31 to June 2, 2013, the gates of Ludwigsburg Palace will be opened for the tenth time for the classic car event "Retro Classics meets Baroque".
The 911 field at the Schloss-Rondell will be a tribute to its late designer Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche created this car under the maxim "Design must be functional" and thus created a monument to himself on wheels. To mark the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911, some special treasures will be on display, including the "Jägermeister-Porsche", the most striking Kremer-Porsche 935 with K3 paintwork.
Another highlight will be the large special "50 years of the Pagoda" field.
As part of "Retro Classics meets Baroque", Mr. Gerst from TÜV Süd will be honoured with the RetroClassicCultur e. V. (RCC) and its support association's honorary award for his special services to the preservation of historic automobiles. His passion for classic cars began 40 years ago. He collected all the facts and figures he could get his hands on and built up an archive. Going back to 1886, his collection now comprises well over 90% of car models and therefore over 1 billion pieces of data!
Elegant automobiles that are at least 50 years old will take part in the Concours d'Élégance beauty contest.
Anyone who wins one of the coveted prizes here can be sure that their classic car is one of the best of the best. The 26-member jury makes its decision according to the strict rules that apply to a FIVA A event of the classic car world organization.
In the past nine years, elegant and exclusive classic cars from the brands Maybach, Mercedes-Benz, Lancia, Alfa Romeo Rolls-Royce, Delahaye and Delage have taken home the "German Grand Prix - Automobile Elegance".
In addition, the "Festival of Classics Cars" for vehicles built 30-50 years ago will take place with somewhat more moderate regulations.
The starting field for the Concours d'Élégance is already exceptional, for example a rare Shelby Cobra 427, a Veritas C 90, a Bentley Blower and a Mercedes-Benz 540K special roadster with its sweeping, elegant bodywork.
In the nearby fairytale garden around the Schüsselesee lake, everything will revolve around the "Fashion Award" on the Sunday of the event. The prize will not be awarded for the latest fashion, but for the best outfit that matches the vintage of the classic car brought along. A feast for the eyes for spectators who want to see the "picnic in the park" with flared pants and floral romance of the 70s, the pinstripe suit for the gangster limousine or the opulent hat creation for the Rolls-Royce.
