The first BMW sports car of the post-war era is a sought-after rarity today: the BMW 507 was unveiled at the IAA in Frankfurt in 1955. It will be celebrated with a special show at Retro Classics Bavaria in Nuremberg from December 4 to 6, 2020.
Beautiful car, prominent owners
Elvis had one, as did Alain Delon and Ursula Andress: the BMW 507 was aimed at an affluent audience in the mid-fifties and was also regularly seen on the big screen - for example in the French-Italian crime comedy "Fantomas" with Louis de Funès. Today, the two-seater, 150 hp roadster is a highly coveted collector's item.
A special show entitled "65 years of the 507 - BMW at the IAA Frankfurt 1955" invites visitors to RETRO CLASSICS BAVARIA® to take an automotive flying visit into the past (Hall 4A).
"The 507 was the first BMW sports car of the post-war era," says Dr. Bernhard Knöchlein from BMW Club Mobile Classic e.V., which is organizing the show. "It is one of the great flagships in the history of the Bavarian car manufacturer, a design icon of the 1950s. True beauty that never fades: at the end of the 1990s, the BMW Z8 was based on the timeless design of the 507.
The most elegant BMWs of the fifties
The stars of the exhibition, then as now, are of course the contemporary cars: In addition to a BMW 507, visitors can also look forward to two examples of the BMW 503 - like its nimble cousin, a style-defining design by Albrecht Graf von Goertz and a celebrated highlight of the 1955 IAA.
