The biographical film about Niki Lauda (played by Daniel Brühl) will finally be released in fall 2013. The film tells the true story of the rivalry between the Austrian Niki Lauda and the English racing driver James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth).
In 1976, Lauda's Ferrari skidded on the second lap of the German Grand Prix and he himself was almost burnt out in the crash - Hunt won the race.
Six weeks later, however, Lauda was back at the wheel and began a furious pursuit of the islander. The breathtaking competition is also the battle of two opposing philosophies and stereotypes in motor racing: on the one side the English playboy and heartthrob Hunt, on the other the ambitious and systematically perfect sportsman Lauda. Lauda beats Hunt at the Italian Grand Prix and then at the Canadian and U.S. Grand Prix. However, his hard fight was not enough to defend the world championship title and Hunt triumphed at the end of the season.
The film is directed by Ron Howard (Da Vinci Code, Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13). The first images look convincing, as do the first trailers that have already been released. Will the film follow in the footsteps of "Le Mans" and "Senna"? We'll have to wait a little longer to find out.
