Shortly before the end of the year, RM/Sotheby's invites you to New York once again - the memories of the GTO auction have not yet faded. On December 8, 2023, 17 cars and a motorcycle with a total value of around USD 20.35 million will go under the hammer on York Avenue. The four-wheeled vehicles were estimated at an average of USD 1.194 million.
At 31.1 years old, the average age is low, and a good quarter of them - the cheaper vehicles - are auctioned without a reserve price
The other Lambo from the movie "Wolf of Wall Street"
Two white Lamborghini Countach "Anniversary Edition" cars were used in the movie "The Wolf of Wall Street". One was famously badly deformed, while the other served as an undamaged specimen. While the "accident car" was offered by Bonhams in Abu Dhabi, RM/Sotheby's can now auction the other movie car, which survived the filming unscathed, in New York.
It is interesting to note that the estimated value for both cars is (was) at exactly the same level.
The specialists at RM/Sotheby's are therefore also expecting a bid of between USD 1.5 and 2 million.
Two special special bodies
Two specially bodied automobiles from the 1950s are somewhat out of the ordinary at the New York auction.
Only 14 examples of the Fiat 8V Supersonic were built to a design by Savonuzzi, one of which, built in 1953, RM/Sotheby's can offer for USD 2.1 to 2.6 million
The Aston Martin DB 2/4 Bertone from 1954 is even a one-off, as Bertone only produced one coupé based on the Aston DB2. The estimate here is USD 1.2 to 1.6 million.
A Shelby Cobra 289 from 1963 completes the range of older super classics, USD 750,000 to 850,000 seems to be a reasonably humane estimate for the rare roadster with chassis number CSX 2095.
Super and hyper sports cars
The majority of the New York offerings are more recent super and hyper sports cars.
A Jaguar XJ220 from 1994 and a Porsche 964 Turbo 3.6 from the same year are among the more affordable vehicles, they are said to cost just over half a million.
Two hand-shifted Ferrari 575s were valued at USD 350,000 to 400,000 as a coupé and USD 650,000 to 850,000 as an open "Superamerica".
McLaren P1, Bugatti Veyron, Porsche 918 Spyder and Ford GT are more likely to be valued at one million or even significantly more.
Exceptional AMG wide-body?
It is the AMG 6.0 Wide Body with the lowest mileage. The speedometer shows 4898 km, which is certainly low for a car that can actually be driven easily in everyday life without any major restrictions.
The 1986 Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC on offer with the fender flares, spoilers and six-liter V8 was estimated at USD 600,000 to 750,000.
Few "affordable" vehicles
Of course, you can also buy less expensive vehicles at RM in December; the 2008 Ducati D16RR is already available for USD 40,000 to 60,000.
However, four wheels already cost at least USD 150,000 to 200,000, in this case it is a restored Jaguar E-Type S1 3.8 Litre Roadster from 1962.
And the Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 MFI from 1974 is already expected to fetch USD 300,000 to 400,000. But there is still hope: all three vehicles are being offered without a reserve price.
