On average, the 63 cars that RM Sotheby's will bring under the hammer at the Cliveden House auction in the UK on July 8, 2025 are almost 79 years old. Together, the vehicles are worth around £13.3 million, an average of £195,079 per car. Almost half (46%) are being offered without a reserve price.
Pre-war cars dominate
30 of the 63 cars date from before the Second World War, with a further 21 from the post-war decades up to 1969.
Only seven vehicles were built between 1970 and 1995, another five are youngtimers or younger.
British cars most strongly represented
With 11 Aston Martin, ten Rolls-Royce, six Bentley and four Daimler, half of the cars on offer are already clearly in British hands, with other brands such as Sunbeam, Lagonda, Land Rover or AC, jaguar, Jensen and Lotus also contributing to the British character of the auction.
Five cars bear a Ferrari badge, two bear the Mercedes-Benz star. All other brands are represented by a single number.
The average age of the ten Rolls-Royces is particularly high at 97 years, but is exceeded by the four Daimler and two Clément-Talbot vehicles (102, 117 years).
The Aston Martin is significantly younger at an average of 58 years and the Ferrari at 47 years.
Few super-expensive vehicles
The most valuable car was a red Ferrari 250 GT Lusso from 1964 with the steering wheel on the right-hand side.
It is expected to fetch £900,000 to £1.2 million on July 8, 2025.
A left-hand drive Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster from 1958 is expected to fetch £700,000 to £800,000.
A Ferrari 365 GTC from 1969 is also expected to be expensive, with an estimate of £ 520,000 to £ 580,000 for the right-hand drive car.
The Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona from 1973 (£ 450,000 to 500,000), which is also right-hand drive, is likely to change hands for slightly less.
And the left-hand drive Maserati 3500 GTi Spyder from 1963 was also priced rather cautiously at £ 400,000 to £ 450,000.
More exotic cars too
Of course, there was no shortage of rare and exotic cars.
The Daimler Conquest as a DHC from 1957, which is said to cost £ 40,000 to £ 50,000 but is offered without a minimum price, should fit into this category.
The Lotus Elite of the second series from 1961 is also one of the rarer cars; £ 70,000 to £ 100,000 is expected for the restored car.
Two "Recreations" also look interesting, the Leyland Thomas No 1 Special from 1922, a record-breaking car, and the Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza from 1934. Both are of course considerably cheaper than what the original would fetch if it ever came under the hammer.
Pre-war enthusiasts should definitely take a look at the entire offer, because in principle almost every one of these cars, which are at least 85 years old, is (almost) unique.
The complete offer with many photos and text descriptions can be found on the RM website.
