Following the cancellation of the Monterey auction due to Covid-19, RM/Sotheby's is also switching to a one-week online auction for the North American market. On offer are 92 vehicles worth USD 7.8 million, which corresponds to an expected price of USD 84,712 per car.
Ford and Ferrari in the lead
Of the 91 cars, 10 are from Ford and nine from Ferrari. Six cars each come from Cadillac, Chevrolet, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. In addition to the widely represented brands, there are also exotic cars such as Meyers (with a very special buggy), AMC, Lincoln and Tojeiro.
American pre-war offer
As many as 12 of the cars on offer are from the pre-war period, all built by American manufacturers.
The valuations are mainly in the five-digit range, a replica Rambler 4 HP from 1902 is said to cost only USD 5000 to 8000.
Cheap Ferrari
Precious cars such as a Ferrari 250 GT/L or a Daytona are missing, but RM/Sotheby's has affordable sports cars from Maranello up for grabs. There are three Ferrari Testarossa, which beautifully illustrate the model development of the mid-engined sports car.
On offer is an early Testarossa from 1985 with the one high-mounted mirror (USD 95,000 to 120,000), a 1987 model still equipped with central hubs and priced at USD 120,000.(a 1987 model still equipped with central hubs and valued at USD 120,000 to 140,000), and a late 1991 model for USD 130,000 to 160,000.
Also on offer is a 308 GTS from 1978 for USD 40,000 to 50,000 and with no reserve price.
Some E-Types and XKs
Five of the popular sports cars from Coventry are on the lot list, including two E-Types, which together cover a wide price range, namely a 1961 E-Type Series 1 for USD 250,000 to 300,000 and a 1969 Series 2 4.2 Roadster for USD 40,000 to 50,000.
These are joined by an XK 120 Roadster, an XK 140 MC Roadster and an XK 150 Coupé.
14 Youngtimers
The range of youngtimers is diverse. It ranges from the Mercedes-Benz 500 SL R129 from 1990 to the Dodge Viper RT/10 from 1994.
There is also a Lancia Delta Integrale. And a Porsche 993 Cabriolet from 1997 is also looking for a new owner.
The offer is multifaceted, but lacks real collector's treasures. On the other hand, the estimated values are within the earthly range and some of the cars could even be purchased at a lower price ...
