As every year, RM/Sotheby's will hold an auction at the start of the Rétromobile in Paris. On January 31, 2024, 73 automobiles, a motorcycle, a children's car and a wind tunnel model as well as some modern Ferrari paraphernalia will go under the hammer.
The total value of the vehicles is EUR 55.8 million. Each car (or motorcycle) is therefore expected to fetch an average of around EUR 754,000, even though the vehicles include a Jaguar XJR-S from 1992, which is looking for a new owner for EUR 20,000 to 30,000. Compared to the non-drivable Ferrari FXX-K WIndkanal model for EUR 280,000 to 320,000, this one looks downright cheap.
55 percent of the vehicles are offered without a minimum price, so even with one of the most expensive vehicles, a Koenigsegg Regera from 2021, there is a theoretical chance of buying the car for significantly less than the estimated EUR 2 to 2.6 million.
Ferrari by far the most represented
23 Ferraris and 16 Porsches together make up more than half of RM's Paris offer. The Ferrari cars are on average 37 years old, the Porsches 29, followed by Rolls-Royce with four cars that are on average 82 years old, while all other brands are represented with a maximum of two vehicles.
The average age of all vehicles is 42 years.
12 Pre-war cars
With around one sixth of the cars, pre-war vehicles are definitely present in Paris.
All but two of them will go under the hammer without a reserve price. The most expensive pre-war car will be an Avion Voisin C25 from 1935, estimated at EUR 600,000 to 800,000.
25 young cars
The proportion of cars built between 1980 and 2004, i.e. young classic cars or youngtimers, is high.
Porsche and Ferrari are particularly well represented here, but you can also find a BMW M1 from 1980 (EUR 480,000 to 550,000), an Alfa Romeo SZ from 1991 (EUR 55,000 to 75,000) or a Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evo II from 1994 (EUR 90,000 to 130,000) in this environment.
20 almost new vehicles
The very young vehicles from 2005 onwards are strongly represented with more than one in four.
Both the rare Maserati MC12 Versione Corsa from 2007 (EUR 2.8 to 3.5 million) and the Ferrari LaFerrari from 2016 (EUR 3.7 to 4.8 million) are part of this segment, as well as a Porsche 918 from 2014 and a Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM AMG from 2005.
The most expensive cars come from Maranello
A Ferrari 250 GT SWB from 1960 clearly tops the estimated value list with EUR 9 to 11 million.
The yellow coupé with chassis number 1773 GT can boast 14 podium finishes in over 20 races at the time, including a fifth place in its class at the 12 Hours of Sebring. The restoration is said to have cost almost one million USD and, of course, a Ferrari Classique Red Book is available.
The SWB is followed by two younger Ferraris, the aforementioned LaFerrari and an Enzo. Fourth place is also taken by a very young vehicle, namely a Lamborghini Centenario LP770-4 Roadster from 2018, followed by the MC12 and a Bugatti Chiron.
In seventh place comes another classic Ferrari, a 275 GTB/6C aluminum coupé from 1966 for EUR 2.7 to 3.2 million.
Further down the list are two Ferrari sports cars from the 1950s, namely a 250 GT Coupé Pinin Farina from 1956 for EUR 1 to 1.4 million and a 195 Inter as a Ghia Coupé from 1950 for EUR 800,000 to 1 million.
Race-ready Porsche 962C
An ex-Brun car with chassis 962-177, which finished 10th in the 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans and is the last 962 chassis built by Porsche, was estimated at EUR 1.2 to 1.5 million.
This is not the only expensive Porsche; in fact, the aforementioned 918 Spyder from 2014 costs even more (EUR 1.6 to 1.8 million). Between the young 911 variants, a 356 Carrera 1500 GS Speedster from 1957 appears, which is looking for a new garage for EUR 750,000 to 850,000.
Cheap cars too
Around a quarter of the cars will probably be knocked down at prices below EUR 100,000.
The offer is particularly broad in this price range and includes, for example, a Cadillac Series 62 Club Coupé from 1948 (EUR 30,000 to 40'000), a Bentley 4 1/4-Litre Coupé by de Villars from 1938 for EUR 50,000 to 60,000 or a Ferrari 308 GTB QV from 1984 for EUR 70,000 to 80,000.
The Renault Clio V6 Phase 2 from 2004, which is offered for EUR 70,000 to 110,000, is particularly rare.
The Maserati Mistral 4.0 Coupé from 1970, which should find a suitable workshop for EUR 60,000 to 80,000, requires some work.
More information and photos of the individual cars can be found on the auction house's website.
