Under the motto 'Wheels that move us', a unique experience exhibition has been created on an area of around 25,000 m² in the half-timbered town of Einbeck in southern Lower Saxony. After five years of planning and construction, the PS Speicher will open to the public at 10 a.m. on July 23, 2014.
300 historic cars and motorcycles in a former granary
The heart of the exhibition is a listed former granary. It displays around 300 unique historic bicycles, motorcycles and automobiles from one of the largest private collections in the world on six floors - the former granary floors. There are historic bicycles to discover as well as the world's first motorcycle, the Hildebrand & Wolfmüller. In an adjoining building, 26 small and micro cars from the era of the "economic miracle" are on display.
Relive different eras
A motorized carriage, the Benz Patent-Motorwagen Victoria from 1894, is followed by many variants and developments of two-, three- and four-wheelers of the 20th century. A contemporary Porsche 911 as a driving simulator, pioneering drive technologies and design visions form the bridge to the current millennium. A street scene from the "Golden Twenties", a 1950s milk bar or a visit to a disco in the 1970s - the exhibition takes its visitors back to all eras of motorized locomotion. Over 80 activity stations invite visitors to join in.
World's largest collection of German motorcycle brands
The Einbeck businessman and collector Karl-Heinz Rehkopf has built up the world's largest collection of German motorcycle brands over almost six decades with a great deal of passion and a flair for the unusual. Now he is presenting these rolling treasures to the public in his home town of Einbeck.
The PS Speicher is run by the non-profit Kornhaus Cultural Foundation, which was founded by Karl-Heinz Rehkopf in 2009. More than 30 full-time and volunteer employees as well as numerous companies and craftsmen have contributed and continue to contribute to transforming the historic granary, which had been unused for years, into an exhibition and experience area. On six former warehouse floors and a total of around 6,500 m² of exhibition space, visitors can now vividly and interactively understand the economic, political and social conditions under which people have been moving around on motorized wheels for 130 years.
