The PS. storage facility in Einbeck will open three of its PS. depots in succession in summer 2020. This makes the largest classic car collection of its kind in Europe accessible to the public. At the same time, it underlines the importance of the half-timbered town of Einbeck not only as an attractive tourist destination, but increasingly also as a Mecca for the classic car scene.
First the small cars, then motorcycles and automobiles
The PS.Depot small cars will be the first to open on Sunday, July 19, 2020.
The PS.Depot Motorcycle will follow on Saturday, August 15 and the PS.Depot Automobile will round off the PS.Speicher summer on Saturday, September 5.
The PS.Depot Truck+Bus, which opened in June 2016, will have a new "Lanz Economy" exhibition area from Saturday, August 8, 2020. This will include an exclusive selection of Lanz Bulldogs and other agricultural vehicles. With around 2,500 vehicles, Einbeck is now home to Europe's largest publicly accessible collection of vintage vehicles.
With the exception of the PS.Depot Lkw+Bus, all depots are located close to the city center.
The history of the development of motorized private transport
The depot exhibitions are based on the collection of the founder Karl-Heinz Rehkopf. It covers the entire history of motorized development in the areas of cars, trucks and motorcycles. It is nothing less than the life's work of the enterprising Einbeck businessman. His wish to make the huge number of vehicles accessible to the public was initially fulfilled in 2014 with the opening of the PS.Speicher, which is housed in a historic granary.
Karl-Heinz Rehkopf has created an experience exhibition there that is unique in its size and variety, and which triggers enthusiasm across generations. "At PS.Spiecher, everyone can pursue their dreams, recapture their youth and at the same time experience the technical progress of a century. The interest shown by visitors exceeds my wildest expectations," says Karl-Heinz Rehkopf. "It is a great joy for me to be able to see how my gift is bearing fruit."
The best visitor compliment for him is when guests say after a visit that they can see themselves in the collection and identify with the PS.Speicher.
Corona effects
Originally, the three PS. depots were to open at the same time as the Einbeck Classic Car Days in July. However, the coronavirus pandemic has completely disrupted planning in Einbeck too. Those responsible therefore had to adapt the concept to this variant in several steps in order to be able to show the collection at all this year.
The PS.Depot Kleinwagen is accessible as part of an accompanied tour in fixed time slots. The number of groups that can be admitted is limited. For this reason, we recommend booking in advance. This is possible via the booking page.
The time slots currently available are: Tuesdays to Fridays from 11 am to 3 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm. Additional time slots will be offered as demand increases. Please check the booking page for the currently available time slots. The depots are open seasonally from April to October. Admission to each PS.Depot is 10 euros per person, concessions 6 euros.
The PS.Depot Kleinwagen and the visitor center are located at Altendorfer Tor 3 and can be accessed via Schusterstraße.
The PS.Depot Lkw+Bus in Otto Hahn Park is also open from April to October every Saturday in the season from 10:00 to 18:00. Registration is not necessary.
The gradual opening also creates opportunities for the town of Einbeck. This is because all those guests will find an attractive day trip destination who would prefer to stay at home this year instead of going on a long vacation.
The PS.Speicher website provides information on further activities, opening times and admission prices.
