At some point, you have to part with some of your cars when your collection gets too big. That's what a car enthusiast from Germany thought and finally decided to put some of his cars up for auction. The auction house Günter Baumert from Lübbecke in northern Germany is responsible for the sale, which will bring the cars under the hammer on April 9, 2022 from 12:00 noon.
A selection of 18 cars and a motorcycle will be on offer, including a whole range of Mercedes-Benz classics from 1952 to 2008, as well as a Jaguar XJ8, a Lotus Esprit V8 from 1997 (without engine) and a VW Golf II.
A late Trabant
The Trabant 1.1, built in 1990, is one of the last cars built in the GDR and was equipped with the four-cylinder engine of the VW Polo with 40 hp. The car is said to have covered only 36,000 kilometers and is in an excellent, partially restored condition true to the original.
An early electric car
The Hotzenblitz Buggy was a small electric car, of which only a two-digit number of pre-series examples were built between 1993 and 1996. The Hotzenblitz company was financed at the time by Alfred Ritter, the owner of Ritter Sport. With 14 normal lead-acid car batteries and 12 kW of power, the two-seater "Buggy" version without doors and hardtop cost DM 32,000, while the four-seater "City" cost DM 54,000.
Ten Hotzenblitz were produced in 1995, including the example on offer from the Tengelmann Museum in Mülheim an der Ruhr. At the time, the Tengelmann supermarket chain tried to sell the Hotzenblitz through its stores, but this was hardly successful due to the high price, so that the manufacturer ultimately had to file for bankruptcy.
Saturn Sky instead of Opel GT
In this country, the US roadster Pontiac Solistice or Saturn Sky was sold as the Opel GT from 2007. Finding a "real" Saturn Sky from 2007 in Europe should therefore be an absolute exception. The car imported from the USA is said to have a mileage of around 12,000 kilometers and is therefore almost as good as new.
Almost a Ferrari
At first glance, this sports car looks like a Ferrari 348 ts. In fact, however, it is one of only twelve Wektor W 48s built, based on the 175 hp second-generation Toyota MR2. At the time, such a Ferrari clone cost DM 92,000 and, in addition to the lower purchase price, promised significantly lower maintenance costs. To date, the red car has covered over 180,000 kilometers, proving that it still has the typical Toyota reliability.
An early diesel
The Mercedes-Benz 170 D (W136) from 1952 has been completely restored and comes from many years of collector ownership. The four-door car was registered for the last 25 years, but was only driven a few kilometers.
A pre-war delivery van
Only a few Ford Model A Delivery Vans have survived. One of them from 1931 was used by the Tengelmann company for various occasions to present the "Kaiser's Kaffee" brand. It has survived in the Tengelmann collection with original advertising lettering from the 1970s.
Two long Mercedes
Two extended Mercedes-Benz-based saloons are also going under the hammer. The first is a 560 SEL from 1991, which was also armored by the Bremen-based company Trasco. The second is an S 500 (W 140) from 1996, which has been converted to the look of its successor, the W 220. To ensure the privacy of the passengers, the chauffeur is isolated from the rear by a double-glazed partition. The passengers sit on two benches facing each other and can enjoy dual-zone air conditioning, telephone, sound system and auxiliary heating. The mileage is around 122,000.
Three Mercedes Stroke Eight
The Mercedes mid-size class of the seventies is represented three times: a 200 D from 1971 and a 280 E from 1975 mark the upper and lower ends of the saloon range. There is also a very early 250 Coupé from 1969, which comes from Italy and is said to be unwelded.
