The classic and modern classic car magazine from auto motor und sport is being published for the fourth time this year - the April issue of Motor Klassik is on newsstands. At the start of the season, it includes the tried-and-tested dates booklet so that classic car enthusiasts are well-informed and ready for the coming season.
The most popular classic cars in Germany
Let's start by saying that the most popular classic cars in Germany are of course the VW Beetle and the Mercedes-Benz W123, which is hardly surprising as they were million-sellers. But the Mercedes-Benz R107 is also in the top 3, ahead of the number 8. Motor Klassik takes the three favorites of the Germans apart and provides buying advice for each.
But the ranking doesn't just stop at the last step of the podium; places four to ten are also presented. From the Porsche 911 to the Mercedes-Benz W116, there is something of everything (but Mercedes and VW are predominantly among the top ten...).
AvD-Histo-Monte - Everything in grip
After a two-year break, the AvD-Histo-Monte winter rally made a successful return. Motor Klassik sent a reader on the journey in the co-driver's seat of record rally champion Matthias Kahle in the Skoda 130 RS.
Alfa 750 Competizione - Italian racing nobility
With the 750 Competizione based on the Giulietta, Alfa Romeo wanted to shake up the 1.5-liter class in 1955, but the project came to nothing. One of the two prototypes is now ready to drive again and demonstrated its potential at the Classic Days Schloss Dyck.
Four sporty Toyota classics compared
Toyota tends to be less associated with sporty driving fun, but it has been. Motor Klassik took a few fast laps with a Sports 800, 2000 GT, Celica GT and Trueno Sprinter on the Fuji Speedway, as an inspiration for Toyota, so to speak, because the Japanese brand will soon be making sports cars again.
Self-built roadster from 1951
In 1948, Eberhard Schäfer and Walter Weinbrenner took on a time-consuming but interesting project; they built two seven-horsepower roadsters from scratch themselves and were surprisingly skillful in the process. Motor Klassik has the full story.
Land Rover restoration
Balz Hegg from Switzerland refurbished a Land Rover 109 that was in a very dilapidated condition and now owns a freshly restored, beautiful Land Rover. The 1500 hours of work were certainly worth the result.
Further topics
Also worth reading are the buying tip on the VW Phaeton and a report on four generations of the Pontiac Firebird, including buying advice. The technology section also takes a close look at the Mazda MX-5, while the "Sport" section features the AvD Histo-Monte and the Passione Engadina rally. There is also an exciting article on the Matra Murena, which can easily serve as a family car.
