The first Ballon d'Alsace race was organized by the Vosgien automobile club in 1906. The route led from Saint Maurice over the summit of Ballon to the Upper Rhine, i.e. 678 meters in altitude had to be covered over a distance of around 9 kilometers. 50 drivers from the automobile clubs of Alsace started the race in their own cars. They included vehicles from Peugeot, Bietrich, Minerva, De Dion-Button, Buire, etc.
Last year, the international historic hill climb took place for the first time. The aim was to revive the hill climb in the Vosges and to see some historic cars racing around the well-known track. The premiere was a complete success, which is why the organizers want to do it again this year.
The participants will be on the road from August 11 to 13, 2017. Vehicles from the categories "Classic cars built in 1990 or earlier" and "Sports and exceptional vehicles" will be competing. Up to 300 teams can take part. There will be no timekeeping on the runs; they will be demonstration runs only. Nevertheless, the route will be closed to other traffic.
Registration is now open on the event website.
