The countdown to the anniversary of the Mercedes-Benz Museum begins on January 29, 2016, the 130th birthday of the automobile: on this day, the Mercedes-Benz Museum will launch its program with themed tours and a special presentation on ten years of the Mercedes-Benz Museum. Just in time for the birthday, on May 19, 2016, the special exhibition on the E-Class "Meisterstück-E" will open. The big anniversary celebration for fans and families will then take place on June 4 and 5, 2016. The Mercedes-Benz Museum has been telling the story of the automobile from its beginnings to the future since 2006. More than 7.1 million visitors have visited the museum in the past ten years.
130 years of the automobile
Which date would be more appropriate for the start of the Mercedes-Benz Museum's major anniversary program? After all, January 29, 2016 marks the 130th anniversary of the patent application for the "vehicle with gas engine drive" by Carl Benz in 1886 - this date is considered the birth of the automobile. Later in the same year, Gottlieb Daimler - independently of Benz - realized his motor carriage. Thus began in 1886 the success story of Mercedes-Benz, which has lasted 130 years to this day.
120 years later, on May 19, 2006, the new Mercedes-Benz Museum is opened at the gates of the Untertürkheim plant after a construction period of a good two and a half years. Its architecture, exhibition concept and events set new standards from the very beginning.
The year 2016 is all about the anniversary
At the start of the anniversary program on 29 January 2016, there will be special guided tours every hour on various topics such as automobiles, Silver Arrows, commercial vehicles, Bertha Benz, the museum's architecture and women and cars. The special presentation on ten years of the Mercedes-Benz Museum can also be seen on the Classic Island.
A special highlight in the coming months will be the opening of the special exhibition on the E-Class on May 19 and the anniversary weekend on June 4 and 5, 2016. Fans and families can look forward to a big celebration under the motto "Future needs origin". The Mercedes-Benz Museum will be celebrating the anniversary throughout the year with a varied anniversary program.
