The annoyance is often great, as is the financial loss, if the classic car suddenly breaks down and can only be driven on after major repairs. The repair risks in particular often make it difficult to estimate the costs of running a classic car. This is now to be remedied with the "OCC-mobile guarantee repair cost assistance for vintage and classic cars.
Vehicles registered for the first time from 20 years (youngtimers) or from 30 years (classic cars) up to 3.5 tons can be insured. Repairs to technical parts are covered, but a deductible of EUR 150 must be paid and the insurance only pays 50% of the material costs, while the labor costs are covered in full. The maximum cost sharing per incident is limited to EUR 10,000. Accidental damage or damage due to incorrect operation are excluded.
A largely original condition is required, whereby contemporary tuning carried out at least 20 years ago is accepted. A vehicle to be insured must be worth at least 5000 euros and be registered for road traffic in Germany.
The insured parts include the engine, transmission, differential, transfer case, cooling system, fuel system, injection system, steering system, turbocharger/compressor, drive shafts, cardan shafts, driving dynamics systems, brakes, electrical system (incl. on-board computer, control units, etc.), air conditioning system, exhaust system (excluding the catalytic converter) and safety systems. Details can be found in the consumer information on the OCC website.
Before taking out insurance cover, all insured components must be professionally inspected to ensure that they are in perfect technical condition.
The flawless condition must be proven by presenting the OCC-mobile GARANTIE vehicle check signed by a master mechanic. In addition, when the application is accepted, the technically and visually flawless condition (minimum condition grade 3) is checked by submitting an expert opinion from an external expert.
The annual premiums range between EUR 299 and 1249, depending on the performance and condition of the vehicle. A Ford Capri 2.3 S in condition 2, for example, could be insured for EUR 439 for one year.
This type of insurance can prevent a lot of uncertainty and stress, especially if you are buying a new youngtimer/oldtimer.
Further information is of course available on the OCC website.
