The Classic Festival at the Nürburgring will have a packed schedule, as the FHR (Fahrgemeinschaft Histgorischer Rennsport) is bringing two new and exciting racing series to the stage.
New racing series with tried and tested events
The program for the 2019 AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix has been finalized and promises even more action, even more fascinating vehicles and an even fuller schedule from 9 to 11 August. The highlights of previous years will be retained: The FIA championships for historic Formula 1 cars and historic sports cars are on the grid, and the Le Mans legends of the 1950s and the touring cars of DTM history are also back on the program.
The "A Gentle Drivers Trophy" and the FHR 100-Mile Trophy are two new series from the FHR Historic Racing Drivers' Association. The originally planned revival of the AvD Historic Marathon was postponed to 2020.
Super offer at Techno Classica: two tickets for the price of one
All information about the program and the entire event will be available to interested parties at first hand at the Techno Classica in Essen (10 to 14 April). The AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix stand can be found there in the Galeria (stand no. GA-105). A special highlight is the trade show discount on ticket purchases: For the price of a weekend ticket to the AvD OGP (65 euros), visitors to Essen will receive two tickets (valid Friday to Sunday).
Even those unable to attend the classic car show will be kept up to date on the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix: current information is available on the Internet at www.avd-ogp.de. Information on the AvD OGP event app for smartphones is also available there.
Le Mans legends on the grid
The 2019 AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix program was fine-tuned once again over the winter months. What is certain is that the British 'Masters Series' will be represented with attractive racing series that will hold their only rounds in Germany here. In addition to the Formula 1 cars of the Cosworth era, it is above all the sports cars of the 60s and early 70s that attract fans to the grandstands.
The World Endurance Championship cars of the recent past, which were guests at the Ring for the first time last year, will also be back on the grid as part of the "Aston Martin Masters Endurance Legends".
New cooperation: FHR series to contest the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix
New to the program are two fields that will be held under the umbrella of the FHR. The FHR series 'A Gentle Drivers Trophy', which features beautiful touring cars, GTs and two-seater racing sportscars from 1947 to 1965 according to Appendix K, will contest two independent races.
The FHR 100-Mile Trophy will also be integrated into the starting field of the German Racing Championship (DRM) revival race. With its BMW M1 and 2002, various V8 cars and Porsche models as well as open sports cars, the FHR 100-Mile Trophy is a good addition to the starting field.
Zwischengas is a media partner of the "Kampf der Zwerge", "Tourenwagen Classics" and all FHR series. All reports on the FHR can be found in our theme channel.
Nordschleife action on Friday at the AvD OGP Trackday
In contrast, the planned revival of the AvD Historic Marathon on the Nordschleife has been postponed by one year. Not enough pre-entries had been received by the deadline so that holding the event would have represented an incalculable financial risk for the organizers that ultimately would have had to be passed on to all entrants in the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix. Instead, the organizers decided to postpone the return of the historic endurance race on the Nordschleife until 2020.
According to the current state of planning, the marathon will then be organized jointly with the FHR at the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix so that a broad spectrum of historic vehicles can be invited while avoiding scheduling conflicts with important historic series. Nevertheless, visitors to the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix will not have to miss out on Nordschleife action.
At the AvD OGP Trackday classic cars, modern classics and exclusive sportscars will meet on the legendary Eifel circuit for a driving event while the practice sessions for the weekend's more than 20 races and regularity tests will take place next door on the Grand Prix circuit.
Club meetings, parades, test and set-up runs: lots going on around the Ring
The 2019 AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix also has a lot going on apart from the pure racing program. On the Thursday before the event, the organizers offer participants the opportunity to put their historic vehicles through their paces and fine-tune them during the test and set-up drives. The information flyer for the big one-make club meeting at the Nürburgring will also be available at the Techno Classica in Essen: during the weekend, interested clubs can meet in the reserved parking area and enjoy the festival atmosphere at the huge classic car event.
Registrations are possible via the information and registration address [email protected] until June 30, 2019 The club cars worth seeing in the parking lots around the Ring are just as much a magnet for visitors as the exhibits in the paddock: well-known manufacturers such as Porsche, Skoda, Volvo and Lotus are represented here, as are the racing teams. In addition, Skoda and the trade magazine Motor Klassik will present road cars on the Grand Prix circuit in two parades.
