The city of Friedrichshafen and the Schmid-Maybach family are taking the first joint step towards a permanent Maybach exhibition. The current exhibition in the city archive shows selected exhibits from the collection assembled by the Friends of the Maybach Museum. It has now been agreed to develop a joint concept to showcase the life and work of Wilhelm and Karl Maybach in a permanent presentation.
"In the air, on water and on land"
On September 21, "In the air, on water and on land" opened at the Friedrichshafen City Archive. The exhibition is the first to show a selection of around 2,300 objects and documents that have been collected by the Friends of the Maybach Museum. It pays tribute to the genius and inventiveness of the father-son duo Wilhelm and Karl Maybach and provides an overview of Maybach's company history between 1883 and 1969.
The exhibition can be seen at the Friedrichshafen City Archive until January 21, 2018.
Maybach area in the Zeppelin Museum
During the opening ceremony, Lord Mayor Andreas Brand announced that the Maybach family with the Maybach Foundation and the City of Friedrichshafen with the Zeppelin Foundation had used the past few months to bring together and further develop ideas and concepts that had been under discussion for a long time. Together, they can imagine a Maybach area in an expanded Zeppelin Museum. This was agreed a few weeks ago and mutually recorded in writing in a letter of intent.
With this declaration of intent, a first official step has now been taken. The collections of the circle of friends and the family are still being built up. In the coming months, according to Lord Mayor Andreas Brand, "the city and the family will work together on space and planning, urban planning conditions and structures, exhibition and operating concepts and much more" in order to come closer to their goal of giving the life's work of the two inventors and designers a museum home.
