Mauro Forghieri, tireless designer and race manager
Mauro Forghieri was born in Modena. After studying mechanical engineering in Bologna, he joined Ferrari in January 1960. Less than two years later, he was already appointed sports director and chief designer. His long list of successes also includes an impressive Formula 1 record: 54 victories, which resulted in seven titles as constructors' world champion and four as drivers' world champion. Cars developed by him also brought Ferrari four victories in the World Challenge Series (sprint and endurance), two titles in the World Sports Car Championship and three titles each in the GT Constructors' and GT Prototype Championships.
From 1985 to May 1987, he worked at Ferrari Engineering and then returned to the Formula 1 world with Lamborghini Engineering. After a brief stint at Bugatti, he founded Oral Engineering in Modena in 1994. The company develops and designs engines and prototypes. Mauro Forghieri is still actively involved today.
