Jim Click, owner of one of the largest Ford dealer networks in the USA, spent over 25 years building up his collection of legendary racing sports cars. He didn't buy the cars to invest in them or to put them in a museum, but to drive them and race them.
The cars were kept "raceworthy" (ready to race) regardless of the cost and were moved frequently, often at the front of historic racing fields.
Now Jim Click wants to pass the cars on and hopes that someone will buy them who enjoys them at least as much as he does.
The collection of six vehicles is about:
- Shelby 289 Cobra, CSX 2326 from 1964: Owned by Jim Click for over 40 years and valued at USD 1 to 1.4 million
- Two Kar Kraft Ford Mustang Boss 302 Trans Am race cars from 1969 and 1970, both valued at around USD 1 to 1.3 million
- Mustang Shelby GT350 from 1966 (chassis SFM 6S2363, from 1966, estimated at USD 350,000 to 450,000
- Shelby 289 'Competition' Cobra, CSX 2473 from 1964, once driven and maintained by one of the fastest Cobra drivers ever, Don Roberts and now valued at USD 2.2 to 2.6 million
- Ford GT40 Mk1 (Chassis P/1061) from 1966, one of 31 Mk I GT40 cars, which has no racing record but was used as a demonstrator at SCCA events and now wants to be sold for USD 3.75 to 4.25 million
Together, the cars represent around USD 10 million, which should ease some of Click's separation pain if the bidding really does go that high.
These cars not only look good, they were fast in their day and still are today. And if you want to know what they sound like, you should watch the video that RM/Sotheby's made:
