The paternoster in the Audi museum mobile Ingolstadt will be showing the new exhibition "Beautiful station wagons are called Avant" from Thursday, May 11. It will be on display for around a year and will see 14 models of this body shape rotate through the museum.
The oldest car moving through the four levels of the Audi museum mobile on one of the 14 platforms of the paternoster is an absolute rarity: Only 49 examples of the Wanderer W 21 estate sedan came onto the market in 1933 and 1934.
The DKW F 89 S Universal with wooden body and its brand colleague DKW F 94 Universal are considered typical representatives of the economic miracle era of the 1950s. Both DKW station wagons are rarely found today.
An Audi 75 Variant, built in 1972, opens the round of Audi models - the only exhibit with the designation "Variant".
In 1977, Audi launched a new term for its estate models with the name "Avant". The name comes from the Romance languages and, as "avanti" or "en avant", means something like "forward", "go" or "ahead". The first bearer of the name was the Audi 100 Avant, built in 1978, which of course cannot be missing from this special show.
Many other Audi Avant models are on display, including one-offs such as the Audi V8 Avant, built in 1989, or rare models such as the Audi A4 Avant Duo with hybrid drive from 1996.
The Audi museum mobile is open daily from 9 am to 6 pm. New opening hours will apply from June 1: Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 6 pm, on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 10 am to 4 pm.
